“Music creates a bridge for people to move

out of thinking and into presence.” Eckhart Tolle

What Is A Peak Experience?

Peak moments of high inspiration serve as gateways for each of us to connect with our own creative spirits.
Peak moments of high inspiration serve as gateways for each of us to connect with our own creative spirits.

Have you ever been so moved emotionally by a piece of music that you could feel the power of something greater than yourself at work? Have you ever been at a group event where everyone was of the same mind at a particular moment, and you felt yourself merge with the group energy and be uplifted by that connection?

These moments of high inspiration serve as gateways for each of us to connect with our own creative spirits, our inspiration, and passion for life!

Although the world has been quietly awakening for decades, I believe we are on the verge of a major shift in planetary consciousness. I must admit, I slept through the first few decades. However, over time, I’ve learned that when it’s your turn to wake up, your calling keeps nudging you until you respond. It finally shook me from my slumber on a hot, humid summer night in 1990 during what I call my “Bluebirds’ Song experience." Everyone receives their own call a little differently. Unlike many stories of transformation that involve trauma, crisis, or a dark night of the soul, mine came unexpectedly through a moment of pure inspiration and the Power of Music.

The Power of Music And Peak Experiences

Looking back, my story actually begins with my first encounter with the creative power of music, which took place from my third-row seat at the Hollywood Bowl in 1964. At just 13 years old, I was quickly swept into the wave of Beatlemania, which even then seemed to embody a sense of freedom and joy amid its chaos.

Fast forward twenty-six years. This time, I found myself at the front of the stage at a Paul McCartney concert, eye to eye with the legend, singing in harmony the story of our lives, fully immersed in the timeless essence of the music and the moment. What happened next, I could never have predicted. I knew nothing at the time about peak experiences or music as a form of transformation, but I discovered that night that truly connecting with the music and the moment opened me up to something, and I would never be the same again. The shift in consciousness that began that night of heightened inspiration has taken me on a profound personal and spiritual journey over the years, leading me to a career helping others overcome their fears and limitations and encouraging them to seek out and fly freely toward their own unique and authentic Bluebirds’ Song.

I initially thought I had somehow “arrived” at this ultimate peak experience, but I soon realized I had only just begun. This journey to Spirit, living our highest and most authentic life, never truly ends. It continually evolves and changes. It has opened me up to my creative spirit and self-expression through journaling, writing, and poetry. It has taken me on a great spiritual adventure where I’ve studied many philosophies and discovered the unique and diverse ways people experience personal transformation. But mostly, it has given me a deep appreciation for the human Spirit, our uniqueness and paradoxically, our Oneness beneath it all.

Common Experiences in the Awakening Journey

Although my story is just one personal account, the lasting effects of the experience reflect common changes shared by many people. I’m talking about inspiration and its power to transform us into more creative beings. It can pull us out of our own little worlds and connect us to a universal sense of unity. People experience this inspiration to varying degrees and at different times in their lives. Usually, it is temporary and fades once the event or piece of music ends. However, sometimes these moments leave lasting impressions. When conditions are just right, these events can trigger life-changing spiritual journeys that significantly and permanently transform people's lives.

Peak Experiences can serve as a gateway to a larger transformational change, or it can simply be an extraordinary moment on its own, but not necessarily life-changing. For me, it was a sudden and powerful shift within my being and my sense of self.

In working with clients, I find that connecting with the Peak Moments in their lives—whether big and dramatic or small and meaningful—quickly links them to their Authentic Spirit. These are times when you can set aside your ego, fears, and self-consciousness, and be fully present in the moment. It might be a sunset, a walk in nature, a specific creative project, or simply a moment with your grandchild where you can genuinely be there. Peak experiences are about completely engaging in the NOW.

The clearest sign of a transformational experience is a change in self and how it manifests in daily life. The journey can be both exhilarating and challenging. Based on my personal experience, I have identified 20 Signs You're Awakening to Your True Nature. Although this list is mine and not all-inclusive, it reflects broader universal experiences of many others on their spiritual paths.
