DELIGHT! DELIGHT! DELIGHT... I dare you to say it three times out loud and not feel lighter, more joyful, and free. Just the process of getting into the mindset to write this article has lifted me to a higher plane. I awoke to write, and all that came out was poetry! Honestly, simply focusing on the idea of writing about Delight has left me so inspired that my creativity has been awakened. It is indeed a powerful word.

Delight Returns Us To Our True Nature

Delight is the effect of remembering our pure innocence. It conjures childlike joy, giddiness, and laughter without expectations. It brings us back into the moment, connecting us to THE LIGHT (DE-LIGHT) that we really are. It is the expression of our most Authentic Spirit.

Delight is like champagne bubbles of happiness, excitement, and specialness.

Sometimes the delight comes in a “take-your-breath-away” moment, like the time my best friend threw me a surprise 40th birthday party. I was actually REALLY surprised, and friends and relatives even flew in from across the country to be there. I stood in shock and awe, honored by their presence and the outpouring of love. These are the moments when we are filled with pure delight as we live them. They are moments when we feel completely blessed, when we are pulled out of our ordinary experience and into a higher place of wonder, thrill, and freedom to be ourselves and fully appreciate our experience.

Another form of delight comes from a special memory of an ordinary day. In retrospect, that specialness turns the memory into one of delight. One of my most delightful memories is of a day when I sat at Starbucks with my mom, doing a writing practice together and sharing what we wrote. We were both finding our creative voices, and now, many years later, after Alzheimer’s had taken hers away, I delight in the specialness of that time. This is a different kind of delight, but it is just as delightful. This delight is subtler, more grounded, and less giddy, yet full of joy.

Delight Can Be Found in Childhood Memories

Sometimes it’s easier to find Delight in our childhood memories, when everything was new and our innocence prevailed…eating a juicy peach picked fresh off the tree, letting that sweet, sticky juice run down my arms and drip off my elbow, not caring if my shirt stayed clean…mud pies mixed with care in the backyard…swinging high on the swing for hours with my best friend Bubbles, singing every song we knew at the top of our lungs…hearing the merry tune of the ice cream truck a block away and running into the house, frantically searching for my mom for change before he passed by.

Living More Consciously In Delight

What if we could tap into this magic feeling of Delight and carry it with us? What would happen if you asked each morning to live that day in the energy of Delight? You might be like me and become more inspired, more alive in your current experience, and more grateful and appreciative.

So now I invite you to remember special moments of pure Delight in your own life… go on a journey through your memories right now and pluck those moments of pure elation right out of time! Don’t rush; take your time. I’ll wait… It’s totally worth the wait.

 Say it again… three times… DELIGHT… DELIGHT… DELIGHT!

Now... Get up from your chair, dance around the room, and sing your favorite song. Grab someone (a child, perhaps) and celebrate life! Maybe by chasing that ice cream truck just one more time!
