Did you know that July 1st is “hump day” for the entire year? Yes, it’s what Wednesday’s are to the week, the midpoint for the year. Is this year all you hoped it would be at this point? If not, you still have time to make it that way. It also happens to be summer vacation for many people–a time to lie back, relax, take time off, go on vacation and enjoy yourself. Consequently, I felt a bit conflicted writing an article about goal setting in the middle of such a carefree time of the year. But then I realized that when we are taking it easy that is the perfect time to sit back and evaluate how things are going.
Daydreaming is an excellent way to visualize your goals
We know that the best way to reach our goals is to have a clear vision of where we want to go. The way to get a clear vision is to take some time to relax, reflect, and reinvent our future. What better time than when you are stretched out on the beach, or floating down a stream to do some self-reflecting? You actually have permission this time of the year to sit around and daydream. So start daydreaming about what you want to create for the rest of this year and how you are going to go about doing it.
The perfect time to reset your goals for this year
The most recent research in how we create actually shows that the more time spent on inner preparation – reflecting, imagining, creatively thinking about what you want to do, the more easily you will be able to make it happen when you actually start to pursue your goals. In other words, the more “being” time you put in, the less “doing” time you will have to put in. Things happen more efficiently and with fewer struggles and more ease. You are clear, focused, and energized.
Halfway Through the Year – Take a Look At What You’ve Accomplished
Since we are close to 1/2 way to next year, now is an excellent time to do what most people never do: A mid-year review of your life, your dreams, and your goals. In fact, if you do this one simple thing, you will be further ahead then most people in the country! And I guarantee you will see results!
So take some quiet time in the week ahead all to yourself. Use this slower time of the year to your advantage and make it fun, creative, and inspiring for yourself. Stretch out in the hammock and ask yourself some of the questions that will get you thinking and dreaming. Then do some good goal setting so this year will become your best year yet!
Here are a few questions to get you started:
- What goals have I made so far this year?
- What goals need to be revised, scrapped, or added for the year?
- What has really worked well for me so far?
- What hasn’t worked?
- What have been my biggest obstacles?
- What can I learn?
- What might I need to do differently?
- What new habits can I create?
- What are my new commitments to myself?
- What priorities need to change?
- What goals I want to say I have accomplished by December?
